Sanjaya is My American Idol

I am totally fascinated by Sanjaya Malakar, one of this season’s American Idol wannabees. Most people think his singing is terrible, but he’s not as bad as say, Phil Stacey.

Sanjaya has heart, personality and a certain creepiness when he sings. Remember his terrifyingly odd rendition of “Stepping Out With My Baby”? I do, and I’m haunted by it almost every day.

Everyone talks about his hair. It’s pretty cool, especially when he changes it up every week. Here’s a little hair re-cap.

At the American Idol website, Sanjaya’s profile says that people would be surprised to learn that he can “independently raise both corners of my upper lip.” Wha? I just tried doing that myself and felt a) really creepy and b) like I was The Joker from Batman. (Go ahead try it right now.) I thought Sanjaya’s hidden talent was that he could hula.

I must admit. At first, I wanted Sanjaya to be eliminated because of his questionable singing skills. But now he’s become pretty popular. Vote for the Worst and Howard Stern have banded together to make Sanjaya the next American Idol. And one woman said she will starve herself until Sanjaya is voted out of American Idol.

In last week’s Idol there was this cute little girl in the live audience who was sobbing and blubbering inconsolably when Sanjaya was singing. The camera cut to her more often than it showed Sanjaya’s performance. Her name is Ashley Ferl, she’s 13 years old and she already has her own reality show. No, I’m kidding. She has been been interviewed by MTV, the LA Times, Access Hollywood and other powerful media entities.

Ashley says of Sanjaya: “His voice and his hair and his personality, just everything. He’s just like — phenomenal.”

I agree Ashley!

It would be like if Kevin Covais, from last year’s Idol won. You know, the one Ryan Seacrest called Chicken Little.

Or maybe it’s like Clay Aiken actually winning rather than taking second place. Someone that weird and creepy.
